The countdown is on… the Al Hilal star is one step away from leaving


Brazil’s Marcos Leonardo is close to bringing down the curtain on his career at Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal, completing all the major steps that preceded his move to Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam, leaving only an official announcement before starting a new chapter in his professional career.

And it was revealed Saudi Al-Riyadiya newspaper Al Hilal striker Marcus Leonardo has successfully passed his medical in preparation to join Ajax, with the Dutch club set to officially announce the signing of the player’s new contract on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The newspaper added via its website that Al Hilal and Ajax have already exchanged all official documents related to the deal, pending the completion of final procedures and an official announcement.

On Sunday, Al-Riyadiah, citing a private source, revealed that the two clubs had reached a final agreement that would see the Brazilian striker move to Ajax for around 20 million euros, to be paid in two installments.

Al Hilal signed Marcos Leonardo from Portuguese side Benfica in January 2024 for around €40m on a five-year deal before the club decided to allow him to leave in the current transfer window.

During his career in Al Hilal, the Brazilian striker played 82 matches in various competitions, during which he scored 48 goals and 5 assists, leaving a clear offensive mark for the team.

It is noteworthy that the Spanish “Atletico” tried to acquire Marcos Leonardo on loan during the last winter transfer period, but the deal was not completed until “Ajax” managed to finalize the contract with him.
