Declan Rice is fit and available to start England’s World Cup semi-final against Argentina on Wednesday. Sky Sports News understand
Thomas Tuchel’s injuries, illness and squad fatigue have all but subsided since the emphatic win against Norway three days ago.
Rice suffered a stomach problem after the last 16 game in Mexico City 10 days ago, which Tuchel said meant he was confined to bed for three days until the quarter-final against Norway.
As a result, FA doctors decided he could only play 45 minutes in Miami, where the heat and humidity had the same effect as if the temperature was 44C.
The Arsenal midfielder looked drained and dropped as he walked past reporters after heading to the team bus following the extra-time win over Norway.
But Rice is now believed to be fully recovered, and he was able to train fully on Monday in Kansas City – the first full session since the win over Norway, which was behind closed doors.
There is no longer any doubt whether he will start against the reigning world champions.
Elsewhere, with a number of England players suffering from cramps and extreme fatigue after Sunday’s game, FA doctors and physios carried out an extensive rehabilitation program over two days.
And Tuchel is believed to be close to choosing from a full squad – barring the suspended Jarel Kwansah and Jordan Henderson, who has a broken wrist.
It’s great news for England, who are just one win away from their first World Cup final in 60 years.
Tuchel has just one training session left in Kansas City today to get the strategy and team selection right to face Lionel Messi and Argentina.
Nico O’Reilly is expected to be available for selection for England against Argentina despite picking up a hamstring problem against Norway.
O’Reilly pointed to the bench and asked to be substituted in the second half. He replaced Dazed Spence just before the start of extra time. but Sky Sports News Realized that he was not subjected to any major strain.
“It’s crazy, an incredible feeling. I can’t wait to play,” O’Reilly told reporters before Monday’s game.
“Not many people get to that position (of the semi-finals) – I’ll enjoy it and take it all in. I’ve always dreamed of it.
“I did an interview three years ago, and I said I wanted to be in the World Cup squad, and the Manchester City team and I achieved those two things.”
Several other players will be monitored to see how they recover from Miami’s extreme heat and humidity.
Harry Kane, Elliot Anderson, Mark Guihy and John Stones all played the full 120 minutes. Guehi missed several training sessions in the build-up to the Norway match with a hamstring tweak, and Stones had played a total of 35 minutes in the tournament before that point.
