U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham’s sister will serve as interim surrogate after the South Carolina lawmaker died Saturday of an aortic tear.

Darlene Graham Nordon was officially selected by South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster on Monday, who introduced her as Graham’s “dear little sister” who is “just finishing his job.”

“It’s such an honor. Lindsey has always been there for me and now I’m going to be there for him,” Nordon said.

The announcement came after officials, including President Donald Trump, asked Nordo to serve as a surrogate as a “tribute” to the senator, who is single and has a child.

Graham was close to his sister, who legally adopted them after their parents died when they were young.

McMaster in 2010 She said she will serve out the remainder of Graham’s term, which ends in 2027.

“Linsey takes care of his younger sister,” McMaster said.

Nordon said she believes “this is what Lindsay would have wanted and I plan to honor him in this way.”

According to the Washington, D.C., medical examiner’s preliminary findings, Graham died over the weekend of an “aortic dissection” caused by a heart attack. He was 71.

Graham was running for re-election in November, and had the Republican nomination. Several other Republican candidates have announced plans to run for the Senate seat.
