England v India, One-off Test, Lord’s
India 285 (Mandhana 83; Ecclesiastes 3-68) & 341-7 Dec (Bhattia 113; Ecclesiastes 5-118)
England 170 (Jones 52; Goud 5-37) & 186 (Jones 54; Frogs 4-42)
India won by 270 runs.
England were hammered by 270 runs in the women’s one-off Test at Lord’s as India wrapped up an emphatic victory before lunch on the final day.
Although defeat was inevitable as England started the day on 130-6 and needed another 328 for victory, their hopes of a long-lasting defense ended when Amy Jones was bowled overnight for 54 at mid-wicket.
As the tone changed, India piled on the tail as England skittled out for 186.
In the year It was England’s second heaviest run defeat in Test cricket after losing 347 times against the same away team in 2023.
Both Issy Wong and Lauren Bell were forced out of England on the brink of nine months by Deputy Sharma, but Sophie Eccleston held on for her maiden international half-century.
She reached the milestone off 61 balls to follow up her five-wicket haul on the third day, before being bowled by Sne Rana for a brilliant 50 to set off ecstatic Indian celebrations.
Rana was the pick of India’s bowlers who took 4-42.
England had shown little faith or discipline with the bat – he averaged four when the ball bent on the stumps in both innings – and the ball failed to adapt to the conditions and Lord’s pitch.
It was disappointing that a good job by the former captain ended. Heather Knight and beating Tammy BeaumontHe fell cheaply in England’s innings the other day.
England’s attention now turns to the hundred, which begins on July 21, before they play Ireland in a white-ball series in September, where their transition begins without Knight and Beaumont.
