There’s something about sports that has gotten to the point of – I don’t know – not playing. It’s a great deal. I don’t want to enjoy business. I would choose Ireland because it is poor. When I got out of the hospital, I was looking forward to going to a nice restaurant. I said to my nurse: “What should I eat?” He said, “Sam, eat whatever you want.”
I was on chemo for five years. You may not eat anything for two to three days after receiving chemo. So now, I eat whatever I want. I grow a lot of fruit on the farm – and I just had breakfast, which includes stewed plums, stewed apricots, and stewed rhubarb, all of which I grow in the veggie garden.
Would you honestly turn down the role of Bond? Roy Williams
I think I would – because he bothered me with the blood test and my assistant, Margaret – God rest his soul. I also know that I wouldn’t have enjoyed my life if I was the old Bond. There are many other things – several of which you don’t know where the threat is. When they do horror games or movies, people ignore it: it’s what you don’t see that’s scary. We had two acres of pinot noir in our Fusilier vineyard that hadn’t done very well, so this season we pulled it to plant chardonnay. In a few years, we will have our organic chardonnay ready to go. I want to live long enough to pour my first chardonnay, so I’m looking forward to that.
