The suspect CCTV footage from the Ann Widdecombe murder investigation showed them getting into a car in Yorkshire, hours before the former Conservative minister. She is thought to have been attacked at her home in Devon.
The man, who was wearing a white shirt and shorts, can be seen getting into a red vehicle outside a house in Rotherham with what appears to be a long object sticking out of his shorts pocket in footage posted at 07:51 on Wednesday. It was first reported by The Sun., External
On Thursday, 78-year-old Widdecombe was found dead at her home in Hightor, Devon, with severe injuries.
Her death sparked a manhunt, which culminated in the arrest of a 28-year-old white English man in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, at around 9pm on Saturday.
Police continued to question the suspect on Monday.
Devon and Cornwall Police said there was “no indication” the killing was politically motivated.
Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman said officers were keeping an “open mind” about a potential motive and there was not thought to be any threat to the general public.
