Fulham are set to make an ambitious loan bid to sign Real Madrid youngster Franco Mastantuno after new manager Alvaro Arbeloa set his sights on reuniting his former player at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Argentinian website El Intracente reports that Arbeloa, who recently took over as Fulham manager from Marco Silva, is set to quickly bring Mastantuno into the fold before the start of the new Premier League season next month.

The 43-year-old Spanish coach, who was fired after just five months in charge of Real Madrid, is looking to strengthen his attack line by including one of his trusted stars in a surprise deal.

Fulham received a huge morale boost after returning Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho informed Mastantuno of his possible temporary departure from the Royals, saying the door was open to a loan deal.

But the London outfit face stiff competition from more than 10 other clubs interested in signing the 18-year-old right winger, who is regarded as one of the hottest emerging talents in Argentine football.

Mastantuno, who was not called up to Argentina’s 2026 World Cup squad, scored twice in 18 games under Arbeloa last season before he was sacked.

The talented youngster has not ruled out a move away from Real Madrid less than 12 months after joining them from Argentine side River Plate for £53million.

Mastantuno is seen as a possible replacement for Harry Wilson, who turned down a contract extension to join Leeds United, at a time when Fulham have seen a number of stars leave, most notably Raul Jimenez, and Samuel Chukwueze returned to Milan at the end of his loan spell.

But Mastantuno is not the only Real Madrid star Arbeloa has in mind, as the Spanish coach has been linked with a desire to sign youngsters Thiago Pitarch, Cesar Palacios, Manuel Angel and Jorge Sestero from Real.

Arbeloa has previously coached this quartet in charge of the reserve team and first team at Real Madrid, which increases the chances of successful negotiations.
