"Be suicidal, idiot"..Sorlot receives threatening letters

Did he fail to convince his country’s fans?

Lena Selnes, the partner of Norwegian striker Alexander Sorlot, has decided to take legal action after receiving abusive messages via her email and social media.

Following England’s World Cup quarter-final exit to Norway, Lena Selnes had to break her silence on her Instagram account to respond to the outpouring of hate directed at her colleague and national team player Alexander Sorlot.

Selnes, who has more than 40,000 followers, posted examples of abusive messages she received through the Story feature, which read: “Please kill yourself, idiot!” And “Tell your friend to leave Norway and jump off a cliff.”

Selnes, mother of Sorlot’s two children, commented on the incident, saying, according to the website, “tv2:Norwegian. “The World Cup brings a lot of joy, but it also brings a lot of hate.”

“I didn’t want to pay attention to these comments, but after messages of this level, silence became impossible.”

He noted: “I hope everyone will think carefully before writing such comments, regardless of the circumstances.”

In turn, the coach of the Norwegian national team, Stal Solbakken, strongly condemned this campaign, describing what happened as “tragic”, adding: “This is the reality we live in today.”

He continued. “That’s why I advise young players to stay away from social media as much as possible.”

It is noteworthy that Sorlot started all of Norway’s matches at the World Cup, except for the match against France. He was substituted in the defeat against England, and the striker did not manage to score a single goal during the tournament.
