“Barcelona” president closes the door in Saint Germain’s face
“Barcelona” president Joan Laporta has commented for the first time on the news that Ferran Torres may move to PSG, stressing that he has not received any official communication from the Parisian club regarding a possible transfer.
While he was in the US to watch the World Cup semi-final between Spain and France, Laporta was asked about the international forward’s future. He downplayed the importance of the rumors, emphasizing that the player is still in the ranks of “Barcelona”.
Laporta, in response to Ferran’s possibility of moving to the European champion after the World Championship, said: “I have heard something about this matter, but we have not received any official confirmation. Ferran is a “Barcelona” player.
The Catalan club’s president’s comments come after media reports suggested that Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in the player had increased in the past few hours.
According to the newspaper,Mundo Deportivo:“The Paris club entered into negotiations with the player’s agents a few days ago and it is said that the deal has reached an extended stage, but the official announcement has been delayed until after the World Cup.
For his part, Ferran Torres still keeps all options open, and despite receiving an offer to extend the contract with “Barcelona”, he has not yet made the final decision. Should he decide to leave the Blaugrana, his priority will be to join one of Europe’s top clubs, with Paris Saint-Germain under Luis Enrique the most prominent option.
However, Laporta chose to highlight the player’s performance for the Spanish national team, saying: “Ferran is performing at a great level, he’s a real threat every time he’s on and he’s the one who helped Merino excel against Portugal.”
He also noted the importance of Barcelona’s international players participating in the World Cup, adding: “We have outstanding players at the World Cup, and that’s one of the reasons I’m here.”
