The Secretary Adversary Prix Adds Gene Pratt to Royal Ascot Love at Deauville | Racing news

Royal Ascot hero The Secretary took top honors at Deauville with a brilliant frontal success in the Adversary Prix Jean Pratt.

Jersey Stakes scorer Fozzie Stack has come up short when tackling Group One events before, struggled to run at Woodbine last year and failed to show his true colors in the Newmarket and Curragh editions of the 2000 Guineas.

However, with his tail up and confidence after a seven-furlong victory at the Royal Meeting, he excelled again at that distance under Christophe Soumillon, who was appointed for the usual pilot, the suspended Semi Heffernan.

The Secretary Adversary was still full of race to the line as Aidan O’Brien’s run-on True Love finished strongly to make the Irish-trained one-two. Christopher Head’s night was the home team’s best.

Stack said Sky Sports Racing: “It was great and we thought he’d run well but we’re fighting two Guineas winners which is tough, especially one away from home and the other one who doesn’t live too far from us.

“It’s been a great day and I’d like to thank Rupert and the Magnier family (owners) for sending this horse to us and his last two days have been incredible.

“Sammy spoke to Christophe earlier and told him about the horse and Christophe asked if I would mind if he ran with no pace. I said don’t fight him and just don’t beat him and he nailed it!

“This horse has a great constitution and he’s very strong. Both Christophe and Semi said they see six furlongs as no problem and he’s getting faster. For a horse we thought could get a mile and maybe a bit with it, he’s getting faster.

“We trained his grandmother (Scream Blue Murder) and she was a sprinter and a lot of the family were sprinters so maybe he’s going back to type.

“We’ll see how he comes out of it and comes home and we’ll make a plan.

“He went on the trip just before Ascot as a two-year-old and went to Canada and we threw him a lot but he’s coming back.”

The win continued a fine run for Stack who sent sensational teenager Nola Soul to victory at Royal Ascot.

“If you’d told me a month ago, I’d have two Royal Ascot winners and then a Group One at Deauville, I’d have said ‘stop it’,” Stack said. “It’s amazing.”
