Terrorists affiliated with the al-Qaeda group joined the Tuareg rebels and captured several towns.
The military has been in power since the coup in 2020.
It asked for help from the Russian military to drive out militias operating in the Sahel.
Now, the military government has accused the former colonial power of France as a sponsor of the protests.
