East Sussex’s women-only gig group will grow to 700 members


Havard said: “I doubted from the beginning that people would actually come out. But they did.”

“A lot of people were nervous when they started. They didn’t know anybody, but somehow they made it.

“What’s amazing is that every event we’ve had, people have come together and become friends over the years.”

Member Karen Bird said simple touches helped break the ice.

“No one wants to go out alone. No one wants to walk into a bar and not know anyone. You feel a little awkward,” she says.

“That’s why we have T-shirts and badges so people can recognize someone and they can just come up and say, ‘Hi, I’m Jane’, ‘I’m Karen’ or ‘I’m Lucy.’

“Everyone is welcome. It’s like a community.”
