Video: It will haunt him for years… Sorlot disappoints Haaland and kills the Norwegian dream

Norway were just one step away from setting foot in the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup before an opportunity that could haunt them for years struck what many saw as a real turnaround against England.

England beat Norway 2-1 after the latter took a one-goal lead before conceding another when Alexander Sorlot needed to pull himself together.

Norway took the lead late in the first half through a superb goal from Andreas Schilderup before continuing the pressure in search of a second goal.

In the 44th minute, Alexander Sorlot launched a counter-attack and Erling Haaland was all alone on the left flank, waiting for a pass to put him in front of goal.

But the Atletico Madrid striker chose to keep the ball for himself while the English defense closed the space in front of him, and it ended with a poor shot, and Jude Bellingham was able to make it 1-1 after 3 minutes.

The Swiss Blick newspaper commented. “Although the Norwegian fans did not hold Sorlot responsible for the sending off, many felt that just one pass would have given Holland an almost certain chance to score, giving Norway a two-goal lead and making it difficult for England to come back into the game.”

Instead, Jude Bellingham managed to seal England’s victory early in the first extra time, with his second goal to send them through to extra time.

England are set to face Argentina in the semi-finals next Wednesday.
