Denis O’Sullivan will leave Liverpool six months after joining

Liverpool club record signing Denis O’Sullivan is expected to leave this summer just six months after joining.

A return to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) is most likely and Gotham FC are favorites to sign her.

The Republic of Ireland international joined Liverpool for £300,000 in January and has been a standout performer since his arrival.

His departure is a huge disappointment for the Reds, who are looking to rebuild after a disappointing campaign in 2025-26.

During her time at Liverpool, O’Sullivan made 13 appearances, including nine in the league, and helped Gareth Taylor’s side reach the semi-finals of the Women’s FA Cup.

Report proposal, outsider O’Sullivan’s move could involve an initial one-year loan with an obligation-to-buy clause included.

Sources have told BBC Sport that Liverpool are in positive talks with O’Sullivan and Gotham and are expected to receive a large fee in exchange for his departure.

O’Sullivan’s decision to leave Liverpool is believed to be personal as he wants to return to the United States, where he spent nine seasons with the North Carolina Courage, making over 150 appearances and captaining the team.

The 32-year-old is vastly experienced on the international stage, making 132 appearances for the Republic of Ireland and playing a key role in their Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign this year.

Losing O’Sullivan and failing to turn a loan move for goalkeeper Jennifer Falk into a permanent deal, Liverpool are hoping to remain active in the transfer window after already making three signings.
