Senegal’s manager Pape Thiao has been sacked due to the exit from the World Cup

Senegal have sacked manager Pep Thieau following the country’s exit in the last-32 of the 2026 World Cup.

The Teranga Lions, who have been managed by Thiau since December 2024, were defeated by France and Norway in their first two group games.

They beat Iraq 5-0 to qualify for the knockout stages and finish third in their group as the best teams in the final.

Senegal led Belgium 2-0 in their last-32 tie but lost two late goals and a penalty in extra time. As they were dramatically beaten 3-2.

Following the exit, Said midfielder Pape Gué He will “take a break” from playing for Senegal while in charge of the current management.

The Senegal Football Federation (FSF) said, outsider that “after a thorough evaluation of the sporting results and the prospects of the national team” it dismissed Thiao “in the best interests of Senegalese football”.
