Will young people still vote Republican after Charlie Kirk’s death, and could the fight for his legacy cost Donald Trump critical votes in this year’s midterm elections? This week marks the start of the trial for Kirk’s killer, Tyler Robinson, in which prosecutors will decide whether they have enough evidence to file a murder charge. The hearings again highlighted Charlie Kirk’s influence on young people and condemnation among some Republicans for his legacy. His death has become the subject of conspiracy theories among prominent alt-right influencers such as Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens, who have used his endorsement in campaign ads for this year’s midterm election candidates. But alongside this is an administration that is unpopular with young people, who voted in part for Trump because of rising cost-of-living pressures and a desire to reject wars. Can the Republican Party keep the voters Charlie Kirk helped and if they don’t vote for the party, where will they go?
