Alfie Haaland, father of Norway star Erling Haaland, caused controversy during the 2026 World Cup quarter-final between Norway and England when he lost his temper in the FIFA booth and made obscene, inappropriate gestures monitored by cameras, sparking widespread criticism from media around the world.
As reported by the Spanish TV channel “Carousel Deportivo”, Alfie Haaland’s worst gesture happened in extra time, when England’s Spence received a penalty, which was later canceled after a review by the video assistant technology (VAR).
Cameras focused on the Norway star’s father as he waved at the England player as he pretended to fall before raising the middle finger at him in what was described as “disgraceful” behavior for any spectators on the pitch.

Spanish commentator Dani Garrido strongly criticized Alfie Haaland’s actions during the broadcast of the game, saying: “What a shame, what Alfie Haaland did. First, he made an acting move from the FIFA booth. Shame on him, FIFA and the broadcaster because they focused on him the whole time. It’s a shame.”
Garrido added: “We have to remind him that the players, the referees and all the staff are doing their job. They may do it better or worse, but they work. His behavior is pathetic. I don’t think Erling appreciates the actions his father is taking.”
