Bulk carrier attacked by several small ships in Iran, UKMTO says | US-Israel War on Iran News

All workers are safe and no environmental problems have been reported after the incident 20 kilometers west of Sirik, the monitoring agency said.

A bulk carrier has reportedly been attacked by several small vessels off the coast of Iran near the Strait of Hormuz, Britain’s maritime watchdog said.

In a brief statement on Sunday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said all crew members of the unidentified ship were “declared safe” after the incident 11 nautical miles (20km) west of Sirik, Iran.

“No environmental damage has been reported,” the UKMTO added.

Sirik is on the Iranian side of the Strait of Hormuz, which has been at the center of the US-Israeli conflict over Iran.

Iran retained a strength on the most important waterway since the conflict began in late February, blocking major flows of oil, gas and fertilizers to the global economy and sending prices soaring.

The United States has established a blocking-blockade at Iranian ports from April 13, a few days after the formal agreement went into effect.

Meanwhile, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Sunday that 49 ships trying to enter or leave Iranian ports were rerouted after being blocked.

“As of today, 49 merchant ships have been deployed to deal with the blockade. The US military remains committed to the full implementation,” CENTCOM said in a post.
