Islamabad cites national security concerns, repatriating thousands of illegal immigrants.

A day after the government announced that undocumented Afghans would leave, Pakistan has renewed its crackdown on the thousands of people still living in the country.

In response to criticism, government officials say they are enforcing immigration laws and cite national security concerns.

Hundreds of thousands of Afghans have returned to the country they fled. The UN says they include undocumented migrants, refugees and holders of Afghan citizenship cards.

The campaign coincided with rising political tensions between Islamabad and Kabul.
