Good news for Merengue!
Thibaut Courtois was the talk of the town last night as Spain beat Belgium to book their place in the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup thanks to a late goal from Mikel Merino. The goal came from a blunder by goalkeeper Sean Lamins, who replaced Courtois midway through the second half after the Real goalkeeper was injured during the game.
Lamens’ mistake cost Belgium dearly as Spain managed to hold on to their narrow lead. To make matters worse for Real Madrid, it is reported that Courtois could miss 4 to 8 weeks with a new injury.
However, as reported by “Mundo Deportivo” newspaper, the goalkeeper, who is currently considered one of the best in the world, had a muscle problem, which caused fears that he may miss the start of the next season.
Andrei Lunin has been in contention to become Real Madrid’s starting goalkeeper, at least in the early stages of next season, but the report suggests that Courtois could return in time to start for Real Madrid when the season starts next month.

Real are due to kick off their campaign on August 17 against Real Sociedad, although that is expected to be delayed due to a number of the club’s players reaching the World Cup semi-finals.
This is a big boost for Real Madrid, who are looking to strengthen their defensive stability following the appointment of Jose Mourinho.
The Royals had already strengthened their defensive unit by signing three players in the summer and Mourinho was looking to sign another centre-back. Having a leader like Courtois should give more confidence to a defense that will look completely new with players who have never played together before.
In addition to his leadership, Courtois brings much-needed quality in goal, although his back-up goalkeeper Lunin didn’t do too badly either.
