Moroccan star. This is not the ending we were aiming for

Pride is mixed with regret

Morocco’s Ayoub Amaymouni wanted to send an emotional message to fans after the end of the Atlas Lions’ 2026 World Cup campaign, expressing his pride in representing his country and stressing that exclusion will not stop the national team’s ambitions in the future.

Coach Mohamed Wehbe’s career at the World Cup, which was hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico, ended in the quarter-finals, where he lost to France with two clean sheets from Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele.

21-year-old Amaymoni wrote on his Instagram page today, Saturday. “Our World Cup journey has ended at this moment. Of course we are disappointed, but I am very proud to have been part of this team and I am grateful to wear my national shirt.”

The player of German Frankfurt “Eintracht” continued. “Thank you to everyone who supported us, whether it was in the stands or behind the screens.”

He concluded by saying: “This is not the end we were aiming for, but we will learn, grow and keep working. Always Morocco.”
