England v India, One-off Test, Lord’s
India 285 (Mandhana 83; Ecclesiastes 3-68) & 154-1 (Mandhana 69*; Ecclesiastes 1-46)
England 170 (Jones 52; Goud 5-37)
India lead by 269.
On the second day, England faced an uphill battle to avoid defeat in the one-off Test at Lord’s, which India dominated.
At 21-1, in response to India’s first innings 285, England were all out for 170 to the tourists’ 115 for a lead.
On another warm day and in improved conditions, India finished 154-1 – a disastrous lead of 269 – as England’s bowlers tired and did not threaten to take wickets on a flat surface.
Smriti Mandhana hit another classic half-century to remain unbeaten on 69 before Shafali Verma added 88 for the first wicket, falling to Sophie Ecclestone for 33.
Earlier, Kranti Goud made history by becoming the first woman to score 5-37 in the Lord’s Test Honors Board as England struggled with formality.
After eliminating Tammy Beaumont last night, Gaud continued to work in the top order. Maia Bouchier was caught behind for 23 and Alice Capsey was caught by nip-backer for nine before claiming the key wicket of captain Nate Sciver-Brunt lbw for 44.
Sciver-Brunt and Amy Jones provided England’s only real opposition with a fifth-wicket stand of 84, but Jones’ 52-wicket haul in the last 6 wickets for 39 runs resulted in a heavy collapse.
Despite a tough day, the biggest positive for England was the world record attendance for a women’s Test match in one day – a crowd of 15,243 beat the previous 11,918 for the Women’s Ashes in Melbourne in 2025.
With two more days of good weather expected, India have a chance to keep a tired England at bay and knock them out of the game on the third day.
