Rotherham’s ex-Milk striker won £4 million in the prize draw

A former milkman says he can’t believe his luck after winning a £4 million home and £250,000 in the prize draw.

David Roper, 58, found out he had won the six-bedroom house in Surrey – with a heated outdoor pool and tennis court – at the end of a busy work week.

When he told him he had won the Omaze drawing, he said he was busy “planning to get to the pub at 5pm and have a nice cold pint of Guinness”.

“I wasn’t sure if I had just seen everything, I felt so confident I couldn’t believe it myself,” said Roper, who said their new home was a “huge upgrade” from their current bungalow.

Roper, who lives with his wife Janie, 44, and their pet Rosie, said: “I’ve never won anything before in my life. I think I’m saving it all for this.”

He said he ended up walking into the bar four hours later than he was supposed to because he was so confident he wouldn’t even buy a round of drinks for the other customers.

“I’ll definitely get a round now I’ve seen the place for myself and I know it’s 100% true,” he said.
