World Cup 2026: Harry Kane says playing golf with US President Donald Trump was surreal

England captain Harry Kane has said he once played golf with US President Donald Trump, describing the experience as “surreal”.

This striker will lead for England Against Norway in the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Miami on Saturday (22:00 BST) and revealed in the build-up to that game that he played golf with Trump in Florida 18 months ago.

“To be honest, I played well,” said Bayern Munich striker Kane.

“He invited me to play when I was in Palm Beach. So yeah, when the president invites you somewhere…

“It was a pretty surreal experience just meeting him and obviously playing golf with him.

“His golf is pretty good, to be honest with you. I hope I can play as good golf as him at his age, that’s for sure. A unique experience, but I’m grateful he invited me to play.”

The United States is co-hosting the 2026 World Cup with Canada and Mexico, and Kane’s comments followed Trump, 80, as the pair played together.

“I think Kane is a great player,” Trump said after Kane’s six goals and one assist for England at the World Cup helped the Three Lions beat Mexico 3-2 in the last 16.

“I’ve played golf with him and I like him a lot. He’s a good golfer, too. He’s really awesome.”
