Coventry sensory prom ‘perfect ending’ for SEND school pupils

School can be a confusing and difficult time for anyone.

Today’s traditional teacher’s prom therefore gives students the chance to let their hair down as they finish one chapter and start another.

But what if the prom itself runs the risk of feeling a little too much?

Music and jamming may be just the ticket for some students, but those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) may need a more managed environment.

Forward Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind (CWWMind), which aims to ensure that school leavers with SEND have the same experience as other pupils.

Held at the 147 Club in Coventry on June 30, “Senses” was believed to be the first of its kind in the city and, according to one mother, was the “perfect end” to her son’s school career.

Participating mother Kate, of 15-year-old Lily-Mae, from Warwickshire, said: “She loved being able to run away from the classes when it was too busy. I wasn’t expecting her to get up and dance, but she enjoyed every minute of it.”
