English striker. I see myself as a different player
England captain Harry Kane has refused to be compared to Norway’s Erling Holland ahead of this Saturday night’s World Cup 2026 quarter-final clash, stressing that the two have different styles on the pitch despite their leading positions.
In the current World Cup tournament, Kane has scored 6 goals, 1 goal behind Holland, and Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi lead the race for the “Golden Boot” with 8 goals.
Kane said during the pregame press conference, according to the network RCC:“We are two completely different players. I know we play as strikers, but in reality we play different roles on the pitch.”
“Erling is amazing and his scoring rate is exceptional. Physically he is a real machine, a huge force and his ability to finish attacks is top notch and his goalscoring record speaks for him.”
The Munich “Bavaria” forward explained that he prefers a different style than his Norwegian rival.
He said: “I see myself as a different player. It is true that I score goals, but I like to touch the ball more and take part in the construction of the game. However, I can also play as a direct striker.”
He added: “I don’t think there are grounds to compare us.”
The England captain emphasized his great respect for Holland, but hopes to reduce his threat in the match.
“I have a lot of respect for him as a player and of course I hope he stays calm in front of us, but everyone knows he’s a great player.”
Kane spoke about the competition of the best scorers of the tournament, led by Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi and Holland.
He said: “I think this World Cup game is great in this sense. All the best strikers score goals and that doesn’t always happen in major tournaments.”
“The fans and the media enjoy watching this conflict, which motivates me to give my best.”
Despite being close to the first place in the list of scorers, Kane emphasized that his priority remains to win England.
“My main goal is to win the World Cup, not the Golden Boot.”
He added: “Personally, I’m having a good season in terms of scoring, but having great strikers at this level is what makes me hungrier and always motivates me to give my best.”
