Evian Championship: Lottie Wade storms into major halfway lead, Charlie Hull also in contention but Nellie Korda misses the cut | golf news

England’s Lottie Wade shot a seven-under-par 64 at the Amundi Evian Championship to claim the halfway lead as she bids for her first major win.

The 22-year-old, who has won twice on the LPGA Tour since turning pro and finished third in the event last year, moved one shot ahead of overnight leader Aki Iwai after the Japanese player’s second-round 69.

Wade racked up eight birdies with his lone drop shot at the 10th. He followed that bogey with three consecutive birdies and completed a flourish with a four on the par-five 18th after missing for eagle.

Wade said: “I hit a lot of fairways and greens, which is definitely the key here. If you’re in trouble off the tee, it can be pretty tough.

“The driver is clicking, I was very good. If you do that you can have a lot of wedges and chances.”

However, world number one Nellie Korda’s quest to win a career Grand Slam ended on Sunday after the American missed the cut for the first time since June 2024.

Korda’s cut miss came on the same day as the men’s world no Scottie Scheffler saw his own long run come to an end without an early exit Genesis at the Scottish Open.

Wade’s compatriot Charlie Hull is still in contention for the weekend as his one-under 70 left him at six under for the tournament, five shots off the pace.

Hull, resuming his own bid for a first major title, collected three birdies and two bogeys and tied for fifth with Thailand’s Athaya Thitikul, France’s Nastassia Nadaud and Japan’s Miu Yamashita.
