The final double-header before Formula 1’s summer break begins on July 17-19 with the Belgian Grand Prix live on Sky Sports.
It’s all to play for at Spa-Francorchamps after further misfortune at Silverstone saw Kimi Antonelli’s championship lead cut significantly at the British Grand Prix.
His Mercedes team-mate George Russell is second, closed to within 25 points after nine rounds, while Lewis Hamilton is just seven points behind after claiming another podium as team-mate Charles Leclerc gave Ferrari a second win in three races.
While it was largely unlucky rather than a lack of pace that saw Antonelli shrink to 66-points, the 19-year-old is now under pressure to reassert himself in the title battle.
There will also be plenty of attention on four-time world champion Max Verstappen, whose Dutch legion of fans travel in large numbers to Belgium for the event.
Verstappen’s future will continue to be the subject of intense speculation: he criticized Red Bull at Silverstone due to a technical problem as he crashed for the second weekend in a row, after the Dutchman’s representatives held talks with McLaren over a potential blockbuster switch.
Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is the longest track F1 visits at 4.352 miles (7.004km) and also one of the fastest with iconic corners such as Eau Rouge, Pauhon and Blanchimont.
Sector 1 basically consists of just a hairpin followed by a long flat out section through Eau Rouge, Redillon and Kemmel Straight with lots of overtaking.
The middle sector before the final part of the lap is full of fast, flowing corners, the final chicane, relying heavily on strong straight line speed to the bus stop, where a driver can throw off a brilliant lap by braking too late or too conservatively.
Michael Schumacher holds the record for most Belgian GP wins with six wins at the event which has been a staple on the F1 calendar since 1983.
As usual, the weather in Spa-Francorchamps is very difficult to predict as rain showers can come from anywhere and keep the area moist when the nearby Ardennes Forest gets wet.
Current forecasts suggest that the heatwave across Europe could end just in time for the event, with a significant chance of rain predicted for the three days of track action.
