TOTP: The 2000 story

In another family-oriented story, brothers Kevin and Matthew McManus guide their sister Michaela in a variety of fun games that, like all good science, have their quirks. Grief is the engine that drives Irene (Michaela, channeling Linda Hamilton’s brutal self-confidence in Terminator 2) to travel to other worlds and repeatedly kill the man who killed her daughter. That is until he rescues the killer’s next victim, escaped Mia (Stella Marcus), and finds his priorities shifting. Simon Wardell

Seductive villains … The Lady Eve on Film4. Photo: Paramount Pictures/Allstar

There can’t be many more captivating movie villains than Barbara Stanwyck’s character Jean in Preston Sturges’ hilarious screwball drama. Sharp, witty and flirtatious, she wraps Charles (Henry Fonda), the no-nonsense, snake-obsessed heir to a liquor empire, around her finger while on tour – then makes the mistake of falling in love with him. How can she find the man she wants while hiding her disappointment? Maybe another trick will work! It’s fun to spend time with Jean roguish in a film with zippy dialogue and zany slapstick. SW
