What awaits Pharaoh after the World Championship?
The American club’s management, led by an Egyptian-born owner, have put Mohamed Salah at the top of their summer priorities in a deal that could rock the American league.
The newspaper reported.The AthleticThe American outlet reports that Sporting Kansas City is the most prominent American club to sign Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, a move that reflects the club’s high ambitions as it enters a new era in the current summer transfer window.
Sources familiar with the matter told the newspaper that Kansas City are leading the list of MLS clubs interested in Salah, 34, who previously announced his departure from Liverpool after a legendary career with the Reds.
While several American clubs have expressed an interest, even a partial one, in signing the Egypt international captain, Sporting Kansas City are currently leading the race should Salah decide to move to the American league.
However, sources believe that it remains unlikely that any American League club will sign Salah at this time, for two main reasons.
The second reason is Salah’s desire. According to sources, the Egyptian star prefers to stay in Europe but is still open to exploring his options, including a move to the American league, especially after Egypt’s national team crashed out of the 2026 World Cup in the Round of 16 against Argentina just three days ago.
Sporting Kansas City has a card that could tip the balance in its favor in the form of new owner Peter Malloch, who recently acquired a majority stake in the club and is the son of Egyptian immigrants. Malluk is eager to deliver on his promise to increase spending and raise the club’s ambitions, with Salah not the only target on the summer signing list.
The move to Kansas City comes as Salah’s future is thrown into great uncertainty after the curtain came down on his historic era at Liverpool and the Pharaohs exited the World Cup at the hands of Lionel Messi and co.
