A deal to bring Brazilian midfielder Ederson to Manchester United has suddenly collapsed after the English club officially informed their Italian counterpart Atalanta to cancel the initial £35m deal, which had been in place for more than a month.

Italian transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the deal has been completely scrapped after Manchester United unexpectedly changed their plans despite reports that the Brazil international was set to undergo a medical following Brazil’s World Cup exit.

Romano wrote: “Ederson’s transfer to Manchester United”. “The deal has been called off and is considered to have fallen through after Manchester United informed Atalanta,” adding: “Atalanta believe Ederson is 100% fit and would welcome the midfielder back into their ranks should Manchester United change their plans.”

The collapse of the deal is a blow to Manchester United’s ambitions to strengthen the midfield, especially after the initial agreement was long overdue, raising questions about the real reasons behind the sudden exit from the deal.
