But this fire was different, he said.
Some of those who managed to escape the fire paid heavy personal costs.
Los Gallardos resident Jose Antonio Flores watched as flames engulfed the land he had tended for decades.
“It burns your soul,” he told Reuters news agency, pointing to his son: “I raised him where the fire is.” I had 600 orange trees,” he said.
Throughout the day Friday, hundreds of firefighters, military and law enforcement personnel and 30 aircraft continued to respond to the blaze.
Los Gallardos mayor Francisco Miguel Reyes told Spanish radio station Cadena SER: “This is the first time we’ve had such a heavy fire.”
“When I think about how everything was before the fire and how it is now, it’s very interesting.”
