The Senegalese goalkeeper takes courage when making decisions
Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has slammed Senegal’s football federation, demanding a comprehensive review following the Lions of Teranga’s exit from the 2026 World Cup.
The Saudi Al-Ahly goalkeeper confirmed that the Senegalese side missed the opportunity that qualified him to go further than the role he has achieved.
Mendy, who has missed Senegal’s last two matches due to injury, posted a lengthy message on his official Instagram page, stressing that what happened at the tournament was a “failure” that required a serious break from all sides, and not just official reviews.
“This exit is a failure.”
The Saudi Al-Ahly goalkeeper started his message by admitting that the team did not achieve what it could have achieved.
He said: “This exit is a failure. We had the opportunities that would have allowed us to go further in the tournament, but we didn’t manage to do it.”
He added that he tried his best to play in the last matches after the injury, but his efforts were not enough, saying:

Mendy emphasized that participating in a tournament as big as the World Cup requires a serious review of everything done within the team, calling to face mistakes with courage.
“Now we must have the courage to face the truth as it is. Participating in a tournament of this size requires a comprehensive and in-depth review, not a formal review, but rather an honest and rigorous effort to evaluate everything we’ve done;
He emphasized that admitting mistakes is the only way to develop, saying that “hard facts to accept are often the most capable of pushing us towards development.”

Mendy called for an increase in the level of professionalism in the Senegalese football system, believing that reaching the summit requires bolder decisions.
He said: “If we want to reach the highest levels, we must have the courage to ask the right questions, make the right decisions and raise the bar of our standards and ambitions.”
He ended his message by implicitly criticizing the Senegalese Football Association, stressing that fans deserve a system that can learn from failures.
He explained. “Senegal deserves a team and a union that can turn failures into lessons and lessons into victories. It is our duty to fulfill this responsibility.”
Senegal crashed out of the 2026 World Cup in the round of 32, losing 3-2 after extra time to Belgium in a game that Mendy missed through injury, so a number of Tiranga Lions stars continued to send critical messages after the team’s journey in the tournament ended.
