Piers Charles: QPR signed the former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper on loan

Queens Park Rangers have signed former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Piers Charles on loan following his move to Manchester City.

The Northern Ireland international joined the Premier League club on Friday on a five-year deal until the summer of 2031.

He now joins the Championship side on a season-long loan with immediate effect for the 2026-27 season.

Charles, 20, came through Manchester City’s academy before joining Sheffield Wednesday in 2021.

He made his Owls debut in an FA Cup tie against Coventry City in 2024 and earned the number one jersey before 2025–26 when he made 21 appearances in all competitions.

“The last few days have been quite busy, but to finally come here this season with the target of playing at Champ level, that’s what I want to do,” Charles told the QPR website., outsider

“It suits my stage in my career right now. There’s nothing better than playing games, especially when you’re young.”

Charles has represented Northern Ireland at every age-group level and won 12 caps for the senior international team.
