Jeremy Monga: How good is the potential Man City signing and what role could he play?

While at Coventry City at the age of 11, Manga received specialist one-to-one coaching sessions in a program that has hosted players from numerous academies around the country right up to the Premier League.

“Initially, Jeremy was quite a reserved character, but he goes about his business properly,” CP Coaching Academy’s Callum Powell told BBC Sport.

“He carries himself well and he’s very polite and well behaved. He brings a good energy but not loud, arrogant or in your face.

“He keeps his head down and works hard. When he’s on the ball, he’s not shy about showing off.”

So even at that age, what did Powell notice as his strongest skill?

“His ability to manipulate the ball and his dribbling ability are his main attributes but the most exciting thing about Jeremy when you watch him is his ability to react and beat opposition players,” added Powell.

“His footwork, agility and technical ability are superior to most players of his age. That’s why he has attracted interest. The way he switches at high speed is a rare trait.”

As well as his coaching, Powell plays in the lower leagues of the English pyramid and says Monga’s attitude resembles that of an England striker currently at the World Cup.

“I grew up and played with Evan Toney when I was at Northampton, coming through the academy and into the scholars,” Powell said.

“You look at him and you see he has great technical ability but you can never predict what he’s going to achieve.

“Jeremy, like Evan, has a different mindset. He’s not nervous, he doesn’t feel pressure, he’s actually motivated by pressure. That’s the biggest thing.

“Working with professionals and the most talented young people, the main thing that sets them apart is their mindset and mindset and you can see that Jeremy has plenty of that.

“It’s up to Jeremy to perform and work to get where he needs to be but I have no doubt he will go on to achieve great things and this is an incredible step for him.”
