The Twins Trust, the charity which supported the research, said the new system could make a real difference.
“Any non-invasive procedure that can detect TTTS early and improve outcomes for our families with this life-threatening condition could be a game changer,” said Helen Peck, Head of Healthcare Engagement and Research.
Weeks after Brioney’s scan, it was clear that the procedure had worked – the blood flow to the baby was restored, although there were other issues during the pregnancy.
Scans show that Margo, who has no fluid around her, is “doing a lot better,” Briney said, and “the pressure on Nancy’s heart is off.”
The twins were born at around 34 weeks – Nancy 3lbs 7 and Margo 3lbs 3oz.
“They were both healthy, and Margo wasn’t as small as we were worried she would be,” Briney said.
They will start primary school in September. “They are funny, smart and energetic little girls for their age group,” Briney said.
