Bono: I really liked what Messi did against Egypt

Morocco’s goalkeeper Yassin Bounou has praised Argentina’s captain Lionel Messi’s amazing performance in the 3-2 victory over Egypt in the 16th round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Argentina fell two goals behind before Messi turned the tables, setting up the first goal and scoring the second, before Enzo Fernandez scored the third in crucial time.

“I liked the fighting spirit that the Argentina team showed against Egypt, especially what Lionel Messi did, because he is a great player, after the Morocco-France game where his country lost with two unanswered goals,” Bono said.

“We saw what Messi did after missing the penalty. He recovered and was able to carry the team on his shoulders at this age. He’s definitely a great player.”

He continued. “We now see another Messi, playing freely, without restrictions or goals. He has achieved a lot and is currently playing for fun and we as players or fans should enjoy him. It’s fun to watch him.”

He concluded by saying: “I congratulate the Argentine national team for what they have done and I wish them success in the upcoming periods.”

It is worth noting that Bono saved a penalty against Kylian Mbappe in the quarter-final match against France on the night of the World Cup farewell.
