In record numbers… Bono shines in the World Cup sky

Moroccan goalkeeper Yassin Bounou managed to save the penalty awarded to the French national team during the match between the two teams in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

The referee awarded a penalty to the Roosters in the 28th minute, and Kylian Mbappe took it, but Bono brilliantly saved it.

Stats network Opta reported that Bono conceded just two goals from 9 penalties (including penalty kicks) at the World Cup as he blocked four shots while allowing three shots off target.

Opta continued. “Bono has saved 4 penalties at the World Cup, tying the record for most penalties taken by a goalkeeper in the tournament’s history since 1966, including penalty kicks.”

Meanwhile, the Squaka network reported that Yassin Bounou became the first Moroccan goalkeeper to save a penalty during the game (outside of free kicks) in Morocco’s World Cup history.

He continued. “There is no goalkeeper who has saved more penalties in the World Cup (including penalties) than Bono, who has 4 saves.”
