Good news for Al-Ahli. Abu Raida asks for an additional place in the African Champions League.

The president of the Egyptian Football Association, Hani Abu Raida, has sent an official letter to the Confederation of Africa, asking to increase the number of clubs participating in the African Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Zamalek and Pyramids are set to represent Egypt in next season’s African Champions League, while Al-Ahly will compete in the Confederations Cup after finishing third in the Egyptian Premier League.

The Egyptian Football Association’s website X published Al-Jabaliya’s statement, which included Abu Raida’s request to increase the number of clubs participating in the African Champions League and the Confederations Cup by providing an additional place for each CAF member association.

The statement explained that Abu Rida’s request comes in light of the achievements of African federations participating in the 2026 World Cup.

“Accordingly, the share of certain federations, according to the applicable classification criteria, may increase to 3 clubs in the African Champions League and 3 clubs in the Confederation, with the participation of additional clubs from the preliminary stages.”

Once Abu Raida’s request is granted, Al-Ahly will join Zamalek and Pyramid in the African Champions League, replacing the Red Giants in the Confederations Cup.
