Bar parents deny jobs to young people who apply for them

Rushid Afzali, from the Liverpool-based Be Free campaign, said it was normal for parents to want to support their children to find work.

“Of course a parent is worried when they can’t find a job, they really want to support.

“It’s not an inspiring issue, and a lot of people try to blame it on the youth,” Rushid said.

Williams said young people should “present CVs, go around, talk to people, especially businesses like ours”.

He says he thinks parents are “too soft”, adding that when his own son was growing up he “never had the chance to apply for their job”.

He added that parents emailing and sending bars asking if their child can work there has increased over the past year.

And he said he wondered if some children who grew up during the coronavirus pandemic had their self-esteem damaged.
