Little House on the Prairie review – this resume will give you the cry of a simple world with the fourth part | Television

Me I’ve never seen an episode of Little House on the Prairie, even though it transported me back to my 70s-early 80s childhood like a ginghamed colossus. This is for the simple reason that Michael Landon’s hair scared me. Bouffant hair is the worst thing ever. But the power of culture and osmosis is so great that even a British military man of some age has taken a part in the story of the pioneering Ingalls family and its beauty in pictures. For young people – and raising children.

The series is based on the books (and is named after the third in the series, which was published in 1935 and has not been published since) by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Like LHOTP: The Age of Landon was the perfect interpretation of the western fairy tale of the TV world of the past six decades (bright sky, shiny fabrics, happy women and children cared for by a very dry parent, regular jobs in melodrama and not a care in the world about the accuracy of history or the need to accept and accept all places. theft), so now LHOTP 2.0.

Women and children are now sometimes sad. Because they are people too! Laura (Alice Halsey, convincing and beautiful) is a real child, turning thoughtful, irrational, frustrated, afraid, brave and stupid, and the conflict between her and Mary (Skywalker Hughes) is shown to be not only the result of a relationship but the result of two very different people trying to find a way to find a way. Laura also wears her cousin’s old cowboy hat most of the time when she wears a bonnet and she’s a caveman because one day girls can be anything, you know.

Ma (Crosby Fitzgerald) now looks like a different kind of Nicole Kidman, she helps build a log cabin with Pa and often wonders if she did the right thing by following him up her ass even though she’s hotter than Michael Landon (I explain, but not by much). He has a reputation (a job as a teacher that he misses, a father who disgraced his family by drinking before he died and left them poor) and a backbone (sometimes he reminds Pa of his duties in the family, standing up to the cynics and bigots who dominate the social life of the town). And Pa (Luke Bracey) is a man motivated by grief rather than greed or wanderlust. The couple left after her brother George’s suicide, which she blames herself for. In the West, Pa makes mistakes due to ignorance or overconfidence but always admits and apologizes. He is a Good Man and an excellent carpenter, he soon gets a job building a church, and Ma can start buying coffee again, without which you cannot be an American.

If you don’t like Pa – I mean, to satisfy the musicians – there’s next door neighbor John Edwards (Warren Christie). He lost his wife and daughters to cholera and his gradual introduction by the Ingalls family will make you cry as if it’s 1970 and the world was easy again with a fourth episode soon.

There are also good parts – a cynic would say good-enough parts – and B-plots about Blacks, ethnic groups and Native Americans. The Mitchell family has Pa’s smart friend in William (Meegwun Fairbrother), Laura’s best friend in the Good Eagle (Wren Zhawenim Gotts), and finally her partner, in White Sun (Alyssa Wapanatâhk), for Ma – it’s an opportunity for viewers (remembering that this is a family show) to hear another side of the story.

That’s exactly the update you’d expect. The new LHOTP is a precision and lubrication system. All the problems of children and adults can be solved within one to three sessions. Kansas may have fever, medicine hoardings and stories about how tough the war was but in the end the vibe is one we recognize: faith, hope and the American way will carry us forward. There are peppermint sticks in the general store, hand quilts on the cozy cabin beds and at least three songs and dances around the fire at each stage. You can take it as a promise or a warning as you will.
