Bellamy is expected to be a frequent visitor at Elland Road as he prepares to open Wales’ Nations League campaign with Portugal, Denmark and Norway in September.
Wilson added to a significant group of Welsh talent at Leeds after deciding to move to Yorkshire following the expiry of his contract with Fulham.
He will join Wales team-mates Ethan Ampadu, Dan James, Joe Roddon, Carl Darlow and Charlie Crewe and Wales Under-19 defender Jayden Lienu, who is expected to make his senior international debut soon. Received his first senior squad call-up For June’s friendly with Ghana.
Wilson, who was linked with Leeds the previous summer, said he spoke to Whites captain Ampadu in particular before finally making his choice.
“I’d say Efe’s (Ampadu) is probably the biggest, I’ve spoken to Efe a lot, but yes, I’m close to all the boys, and even before coming here, on international duty, to talk about the club, they all had positive things to say,” Wilson said.
“And then, yes, as captain of Ife, he’s treated me a lot, just like he was last summer.
“So he played a big part in it, but hearing what the guys had to say about the club, about the city, about the fans made the decision a bit easier.”
Wilson, who joined Fulham from Liverpool for £12m in 2022 after a loan spell, enjoyed his best goalscoring return last season with 10 goals in 36 Premier League appearances.
The 69-cap forward has scored 17 goals for his country, including 12 in the last three years.
He has become a talisman for Wales – even if he rejects comparisons with predecessor Gareth Bale – and has embraced his new team-mates and the fanbase will expect the same next season.
“Yeah, I think the Bell comparison is something I put to bed pretty quickly because I don’t think anyone in our country will ever live up to the quality that Mann and Bell have shown over the years,” Wilson said.
“He pulled us through games and created moments that very few in the world could.
“Being a standout player or one of the main players in the team, it’s something I take on my shoulders. I feel that responsibility.
“I think I’ve gone from one of the younger guys to a senior very quickly, especially on the international stage, so, yeah, I feel like I’m at the age I’m at now, I think I’m at the beginning of my career.
“I feel really good. I feel really fit and strong, so, yeah, it’s something I want to take on my shoulders and hopefully I can bring it here.”
