ECB bloc plans to host Euro Nations T20 final at Lord’s despite MCC offer to Ireland, Scotland and Netherlands


The England and Wales Cricket Board has shelved plans to host the final of a T20 tournament for European nations at Lord’s.

Discussions began earlier this year to create an annual ‘Euro Nations Cup’ for both men’s and women’s sports.

The cricket boards of Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands Concept development and hopes to play it early next summer.

Sources have told BBC Sport that Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) support the idea of ​​helping to develop European cricket and are willing to make Lord’s available.

It was hoped that Sir Paul Getty’s Ground in Wormsley, with which the MCC has a strategic partnership, could also be used to host fixtures.

However, it is understood that the ECB has indicated that they will not sign the necessary staging agreement for a T20 international tournament within their jurisdiction.

A source indicated that the ECB has faced pushback from counties due to international cricket being held in England at the same time as the domestic season.

Earlier this year the organizers were positive about the ECB’s involvement and optimistic that England could participate in the tournament.

But in March ECB chief executive Richard Gold Complications mentioned Fitting the event alongside England’s existing international commitments.

The ECB declined to comment when contacted by BBC Sport.
