In the video… Postecoglou retreats in front of Al-Nasr fans.

The Australian coach told about his new mission with “Al-Alam”.

Al-Nasr’s new coach, Australian Ange Postecoglou, has retracted his earlier statements that he considered himself a second-season man, days after he was appointed to lead Al-Alami.

Last Friday, Al-Nasr Club announced the appointment of Postecoglou as first team technical director, with a two-season contract extension until 2028, replacing Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus, who left at the end of last season.

Season 2 Man

The Australian coach gave an interview to the official page of the “Al Nasr” club on the “X” website, in which he spoke about the statement he made when he was the technical director of “Tottenham”, in which he confirmed his ability to win titles in the second season.

“I used to say that I always win titles in the second season when most people didn’t believe we could win something, like Tottenham, who hadn’t won a title for 17 years and hadn’t won a European title for 40 years.

“I said it at the time because I was in my second season with them, but when I was at Celtic we won the double in my first season, so the reason I said that was because I wanted to tell people that I knew I could win something with Tottenham, a club that wasn’t known for titles.”

“So it doesn’t matter to me if it’s my first, second or third year. Every year I coach, I want to win championships, but it’s also not just about winning, it’s about how to win and how to play ball. This is also very important to me.”

The post-Jesus era

The former Nottingham Forest manager also spoke about the challenges he faces at Al-Nasr after Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus led the team to the title last season after a seven-year absence.

“I have a lot of ambitions and aspirations and I’m happy that the club has these ambitions, which is why I’m here.”

He continued. “Mr (George) Jesus did an exceptional job last season to win the (Saudi) league and now the club is ready to go to the next level, so I’m here.”

He continued. “Look at the Saudi league now and see how it has developed over the last few years. Now there are 4, 5 or 6 teams all competing and wanting to win, and the AFC Champions League also has a big challenge, so it’s important to be here with a team that has some stability.”

He continued. “I’m very excited to be here. It is a privilege and an honor to coach such a great club. We are going to have a lot of fun this year. We will change and try to achieve the greatest success possible, and we will do it in a way that everyone can enjoy.”

New challenges

“I’ve worked a lot in Asia and I’m from this part of the world and when I was working in Europe I always said that all the success I’ve had has been difficult and just because it’s been with Asian teams doesn’t mean it’s been easy.

He added: “Every year is something new. This is how I have achieved so much success in my career. I started every new season with the same mindset. I want this year to be the best ever.”

“It doesn’t matter what you’ve achieved before. I think it’s important to win something. I see that for any club or any person. When you win something and you taste it, you want it again, but you have to remember what you did to get there.”

“As much hard work and sacrifices as I’ve made, and that’s what matters, but for me, I start every year with the same mindset. I want it to be the best year for me, for the club and the people I work with, and this year we will start our work.”

Self test

Referring to his new journey with Al-Nasr, he said: “The most important thing for me is that I enjoyed my whole career, getting new challenges and competitions, working with new people and growing along with it.”

“This is a new opportunity for me to try myself in a new environment, country and new team. The challenge is always the same regardless of the team’s situation. I’ve taken over teams in the past that weren’t successful and made them succeed, and other teams have been successful and I’ve continued to succeed with them.”

“The most important thing for me has always been that I have a good relationship with the people I have worked with at those clubs and I am excited about the opportunities that are now in front of us and what we can achieve together.”
