England’s 3-2 win over Mexico was perhaps the best match of the tournament so far.
I really liked their tenacity with 10 men, with the subs coming on and John Stones blocking things out, Dan Byrne clearly directing every ball and DJ Spence making some vital challenges.
This will be a different challenge for Thomas Tuchel’s team, but I think it will be close just the same.
Orjan Niland made some good saves to help Norway get past Brazil, but I’ve seen a lot of them and I think they’re a good side.
Everyone knows about their star talent in Martin Odegaard and Erling Haaland and after firing Brazil I’m sure Haaland will have a big say in what happens in this game as well.
His performance to score the first goal against Brazil was simply unbelievable. The rivalry with Gabriel was high before the match but Haaland won that battle.
Heading isn’t even one of his best attributes, but he stays away from Gabriel’s eye and guesses where the cross is going to go in the area where the defender is nowhere near it.
There are going to be a lot of goals in this game and I wouldn’t be surprised if Haaland scored two.
England did not dominate the games in the way people expected. They have been a team of moments to pass at the right time, creating moments at this World Cup.
At the same time, I don’t see the Norwegian defense keeping Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham quiet.
England won’t mind that one bit if the game opens up. I think more will come from their forwards from here on out.
Sutton’s prediction: 2-3
