About 24 hours after the end of the match, Imam Ashur wrote a message in Arabic and English on his personal Facebook page, in which he apologized for the defeat and not getting a ticket to the quarterfinals.
“Thank God for everything. There are defeats that hurt more than any conversation, and this is one of them. I feel sorry for every person who was connected to the dream and for every person who believed in us and expected us to make them happy.”
He added: “We hoped to finish the journey and achieve what is worthy of your support. We fought with everything we had, but God decided and did what He wanted.”
