Ferry is the fifth Englishman to reach the semi-finals at Wimbledon since the inaugural season began in 1968.
Only four men have reached a Grand Slam men’s semifinal as a wild card, with Ferry joining Jimmy Connors (1991 US Open), Henri Leconte (1992 French Open) and Goran Ivanisevic (2001 Wimbledon).
Of the three, only Ivanisevic won the title.
Ferry, who had never broken the top 100 before this tournament, rises to 36th in the world. It will guarantee him direct entry into the sport’s biggest tournaments in the future.
The £900,000 check – which will increase if he beats French Open champion Zverev – will be another financial injection to boost his career.
“I don’t see the result as a monetary value, I see it as a lot of work over the years,” Ferry said after reaching the Australian Open main draw in January.
He talked about being able to “reinvest” in his tennis in Melbourne, but, in truth, money has never been an object.
Father Loic is a property manager who owned Ligue 1 football club Lorient, and his mother Olivia, a French former Fed Cup player, worked as a business development manager for LTA.
They are his family. It is reported that it has value, External Over £275m.
But those close to Ferry speak of a man who remains humble as he tries to chart his own path in life.
Ferry’s coach Jeroen Bernard described him as “a very athletic 23-year-old”, while England player Felix Gill – a long-time friend – said Ferry was a “fool” in their circle of friends.
“Every morning when he gets his treatment, we watch the World Cup highlights and talk about the day-to-day stuff,” said Benard.
“It’s no different than when we were playing a challenge in Croatia.”
