ChatGPT’s uploaded text is good for closing

OpenAI is ChatGPT word processing is a new model that says it’s like “talking to another person.” The new GPT-Live-1 is designed to be less distracting and waits for you to continue talking if you pause the conversation.

It will automatically submit your query to its best versions, such as GPT-5.5, when it needs to think or search the Internet, so that it can quickly switch from researching the topic you asked to discussing its findings. The upgraded version will also add discussion of weather, stocks, and sports with AI-generated graphics showing important information such as sports or this week’s forecast.

This setup unlocks new features for ChatGPT audio, such as real-time translation. Now, instead of waiting until you stop talking to translate your speech, ChatGPT can translate as you speak. You can also now ask ChatGPT Voice to stop talking until it’s called, which OpenAI says wasn’t possible before. It will acknowledge that it is listening with words like “mhmm” or “yeah,” and “I hear,” too.

OpenAI notes that it has added safeguards that help prevent the model from having negative feedback or completely cancel chats in “extremely dangerous” situations. (OpenAI is currently facing several lawsuits involving ChatGPT motivated by deception and harm mental health of users.) This model is trained to provide a “crisis therapist” when discussing self-harm, and is designed to provide “age-appropriate” responses to young people.

GPT-Live-1 is available on iOS, Android, and online. It will power ChatGPT Voice for Go, Plus, and Pro subscribers, while the smaller, more efficient version of GPT-Live-mini-1 will be defaulted to free users.
