Two teenagers learn the hard way to avoid toy guns from Waymo

Two California teenagers have learned that Waymo’s robots can and will follow their rules for riding errands. It looks like a really weird jape, getting in the back of a robotaxi and getting drunk and driving, shooting things with gel beads. And maybe it was, until robotaxi and Waymo made it happen. Waymo stopped the car and notified the San Mateo police, who showed up and arrested the troublemakers, according to the post on the department’s Facebook page.

“After we called and stopped the vehicle, we were able to clear both subjects and find out that they were shooting Orbeez in the car while they were drinking during the day while being driven around town in a driverless car,” police said.

This is not the first time that the Waymo robotaxi has run over errant people. According to Redditlast year two men in Los Angeles were reported to the police for drinking alcohol in a robotaxi.
