Social media platforms shared a video showing loud celebrations in Tel Aviv after Argentina beat Egypt 3-2 in the 2026 World Cup round of 16.
The celebrations, which appeared in a video posted on social media by Al Jazeera, came shortly after Egypt’s exit from the tournament, in a game that saw an exciting comeback by Argentina, in addition to wide-ranging refereeing disputes over a series of decisions that drew objections from the coaching staff and Pharaohs players.
A number of observers connect the celebrations in Tel Aviv with the public stances of the Egyptian national team coach Hossam Hassan in support of the Palestinian people, be it after the historic round of 16 qualification or during the press conference before the confrontation with Argentina.
Hossam Hassan dedicated Egypt’s round of 16 ticket to the people of Palestine after he led the Pharaohs to a penalty shootout victory over Australia, saying: He also emphasized that the Egyptian national team represented Egypt, the Arab world, and Africa in the best way.
The technical director was not satisfied with this, but renewed his support for the Palestinian cause in a press conference before the confrontation with Argentina, where he sent a strong humanitarian message, where he criticized the silence of the international community on what is happening in Gaza.
“If there is anyone in the world who does not feel the suffering of the Palestinian people, he is not human,” before adding: “When an animal is harmed, institutions move to protect it, while the Palestinian people live without shelter, water or food.”
He concluded his statements with a statement that received a great response. “When a dog is harmed on the street, they demand that whoever harmed it be judged. And those who kill innocents in Gaza every day with rockets? He demanded to give the Palestinians their right to life and justice.
